Max on Tour

The Last Lap Final Tour has just kicked off. As expected, the bride has been in absolute peak organisational mode. Hotel bookings, travel arrangements and documents all double checked – then re-checked again to be sure! Then carefully placed into appropriated travel files.

Suitcases, as expected were packed and ready with locks attached with barely eight days to spare – PHEW ! I did have an issue – a small reprimand- after I discovered my golf tees, balls and divot repairer had missed the cut. After a bit of to and fro, one case was reluctantly unlocked, golf gear inserted and paperwork done and filed.  Case relocked.

At this point some amongst you would be thinking I am a little unkind in leaving all this work to the bride.  But she is a seasoned traveller who doesn’t want to leave anything to chance – therefore I am excused from these preparations.

As you will probably find out later, I will come into my own wrangling suitcases throughout Europe, as well as working out how shower taps function.

Having a late flight as well as leaving Bella (our dog) at Sam’s  (our son) place the previous day – I was expecting a sleep in.

WRONG!

Alarm goes off at 3.00am. Thinking it’s a bad mistake, I turn it off.

3.05am

“Max you need to get up – I need to make the bed!”

Realising we only have 17 hours till take off, I get up and leap gleefully into the shower.  Both fully dressed, with hair and make-up done, cases at the door – 6.00 am alarm goes off.

Knowing the bride, to put it mildly, is a nervous flyer, I can feel the tension rising. Conversation is sparse and clipped. Finally, some good news- our friend who was picking us up at 2.00pm can do it at noon. The bride jumped at the opportunity to get to the airport even earlier. With little traffic and lights all green we were very quickly at the airport.

After an eternity, we were able to dump bags and head to Air New Zealand Business Lounge – with barely three hours till boarding!  We settled in with a snack, beer and wine.  All is great!

I glanced at the departures board – our flight is delayed by an hour mmmmmm. You little beauty!

PS

Luckily for us we had booked flights with Flat Beds {big shout out to Hannah Longbottom for excellent communication whilst organising our flights}

Through Flat Beds we had 2 Business fares to Europe and were able to access Air New Zealand’s lounge at Perth Airport. The lounge although not massive was very well appointed. Freshly curated dishes excellent beers and wine from New Zealand were freely available via self serve.

The Bride had booked all our accommodation well in advance with Booking .Com  we have used them on our previous travels and would highly recommend.
