Some of you may be unaware that The Bride (pictured above on tour ) was before retirement, a wonderful educator.
She made her way through the ranks from year one teacher to year seven and onto Deputy Principal (ie running the school)
It was in the role of Deputy that she was tasked by the then Principal, who in a lightbulb moment decided, that she could in her spare time teach English to the entire school.
What A privilege!
I only mentioned the above to give some context for stories of The Bride’s previous work experiences.
Bunbury around 1972
(The year after I had kicked my only left foot goal to seal the South Bunbury Football Club’s reserve sides Premiership)
The Bride was working in a high profile dental practice in Bunbury ( Bunbury named at the time as Sin City of Australia due to the high rate of teen pregnancy—fun fact nothing to do with story)
Now a local businessman held In high esteem by himself had dropped of his dentures for repairs (in the olden days these would have been false teeth or falsies)
Said businessman, Clem Raddock expecting an express service that did not exist returned, rushed into dental reception. The Bride who was attending another call saw him quickly scoop up the generic box containing a set of dentures and depart.
Realising, Clem had of fact scooped up a set belonging to local Dero Regie Stench that had just been delivered for a cleanup.
Politely finishing her call wrote up the booking and prepared Clem's Invoice.
After her lunch break she rang Clem's business premises and when he was told who was ringing quickly got on the line raging.
“These don’t fit , they’re not clean I don’t know what you’re doing down there but I want whoever buggered this up to put it right.“
“Mr Raddock sir it appears as if you have taken Mr Stench’s dentures that were in for their annual cleaning, good news though your dentures will be available by three this afternoon and could you kindly return Mr Stench’s dentures.
The line went dead.
Three a o’clock arrives as does Mr Raddock in a rage slamming the offending box onto the counter
“I will just check if Mr Richards has them done for you “
The Bride reappears with dentures and hands to Clem who snatched them away and as he is about to storm out The Bride asks,
“Will that be cash or invoice sir and by the way I will say nothing of this to Mr Stench”
Clem is out the door like a scalded cat hoping none of his mates at The South Western Business Club, where he is a patron, will ever hear of this.
The Bride as always kept her word.
The Bride as you all know is a fine looking woman who always likes to look her very best.
This involves among other rituals untold visits to hairdressers.
When travelling apart from finding the nearest laundry, finding the local hairdresser is a very close second.
A long time ago, maybe in Beldon, she found herself being cared for by a young apprentice hairdresser.
How has your day been Leeanna
“Terrible Mrs Buswell “
How So ?(she didn’t say it that way but I just wanted to insert somewhere)Or maybe she just used the Scottish “how” I don’t know I wasn’t there.
I digress!
“Well like my boss Lucy said an old customer Mrs Brown would be coming in for a haircut, wash and colour.Sweet I said and then she goes Mrs Brown has not been in for a year or so because she has contracted Parkinson’s and is very sensitive about it so please do not mention it at all. "Good I said no problem “
So what’s so terrible?
“Well like in she comes and I greet her good morning Mrs Brown and put her in the chair, as I put her gown on she nearly head butted me twice but I managed “
Then what ?
“Well the stylist started cutting and what a show she was ducking diving weaving cutting all time with Mrs Browns shaking it was like a dance I saw at a recent rave.”
That sounds great.
“But wait just as stylist is finishing Lucy suggests I get Mrs Brown a cup of tea I know I have done the salon proud too easy I am thinking “
Well done Leeanne
“But I was so relieved that I had made it through then I blurted out would you like a cup of tea
Mrs Parkinson?”
