Arrived safely in Muscat - much to The Brides relief. She gets herself in such a state with air travel. I can feel the tension starting to rise as we approach the check in.Her tension gradually arcs up from there through immigration and onto aircraft.

Accelerating to become airborne is when tension is at its peak.

Clasping my hand with her hand - which is a wee bit sweaty she asks “are we going fast enough to take off?”

“Yair,” I reply nonchalantly

As we gain altitude, the plane banks to change direction.

The Bride is very alarmed at this manoeuvre

If they do two in a row that’s Armageddon.

The next high tension moment is during decent when wheels are lowered with a thump.Quickly followed by landing when she has applied imaginary brakes well before plane hits the tarmac!

I must admit that like most airline passengers I am never disappointed that the journey is over.

An airline flight is Much like a politician’s or someone at a wedding’s speech no one will ever say I wish that had lasted longer!

We were leaving Bali “The Island Of TheGods” on a Budget Indonesian airliner. Our seats were just near one of the exit points,The Captain came on over the speakers and said what I believe was “cabin crew secure cabin doors and prepare for departure .”

Our slightly built hostess attempted to arm the door with as I only could describe as an half arsed attempt and sat down.

Captain after a few minutes repeated the request to cabin crew.

Hostess jumps up and has another go still no luck!

She stands there hoping door would self lock

The above is repeated twice more befor a burly fifty five kilogram steward was finally able to wrangle the door shut. The plane moves off with our hostie safely strapped in on her crew seat just in front of our seats. We both notice her brown skin is very pale and sweaty

Next thing she blesses herself with the sign of the cross.

“Are you Okay”

The Bride enquired

“Yes”

She spluttered

“My first flight but everything will be alright

Pilot very good at flying”

We were somewhat relieved momentarily until she finished with

“I THINK HE IS “

Our turn to be sweaty and pale !

I must say the pilot was very good and apart from hitting some gravel (turbulence)on the way home all was good.

Anyway flying into Muscat the landscape didn’t look pretty looked to be heaps of desert sand swirling everywhere as we headed towards the tarmac.

The airport is large modern and not very busy, luckily we have access to Oman Airs Lounge.

It is huge plenty of space good food and drinks- would you believe they even had Fosters beer there how quaint

Just a tip for my fellow travelers be very careful using the internet on your phones here !

We got stung with a huge roaming fee here by

The Oman Telco (as if those oil rich bastards need more cash)

I was able to get Jimmy from Vodafone to knock off something from the ridiculously high charges.I rang Vodafone Australia and got Jimmy from Mumbai.

Jimmy listened carefully to my complaint and after checking with supervisor offered me $200 reduction as I was a long standing customer

Sensing an opportunity I pushed Jimmy a little further

After consulting his supervisor Jimmy came back and had knocked another $118 off.

After another 15 minutes confirming the deal including a non disclosure agreement I was only $814 down!

Gee hope Jimmy doesn’t ever read this.
